The McCormick Place HQ Hotel & Event Center project represents the city’s most recent investment in McCormick Place, the nation’s largest convention center complex. The project added a 40-story hotel composed of 1,205 new rooms, along with the 22 high-tech suite and 10,300 seat Wintrust Arena—home to the DePaul University Demons and the city’s WNBA team, the Chicago Sky.
Ortiz Contracting’s directive was to install new HVAC equipment, sheet metal, and piping for both the hotel and event center, a large-scale project that required the involvement of more than 60 workers. Focusing on steam and chilled water piping, our team fabricated piping from the existing McCormick Place to use in the new hotel’s mechanical room. The project also involved installing riser piping for the 40-story structure, and furnishing and installing heat pumps for each hotel room.
